New Hospital in Merritt Island Expected to Open 2027

April 4, 2025 – It’s exciting to see the new Cape Canaveral Hospital being constructed in Merritt Island taking shape, with completion of the facility expected in late 2026 and with an opening date in early 2027. Spectrum News recently took photos documenting the progress and posted on Facebook.

Here is the report and photos from Jonathan Shaban, Spectrum News 13 Photojournalist:

Construction is well underway on the relocation of Cape Canaveral Hospital from Cocoa Beach to Merritt Island, directly north of Merritt Square Mall on State Road 520. One year has passed since the groundbreaking ceremony for the medical campus, which will feature a five-story hospital, a three-story medical office building, and a four-story parking garage.

The new 268,000-square-foot Cape Canaveral Hospital will include 120 private inpatient beds, 25 Emergency Department treatment rooms, and 6 operating rooms.

Built to withstand a Category 4 hurricane and constructed 13 feet above sea level to mitigate storm surge risks, the facility includes on-site Central Energy Plant to ensure continuous power supply, maintaining hospital operations during severe weather.

The three-story, 92,000-square-foot medical office building is expected to be completed by late 2026, with the facility opening in early 2027 alongside the new Cape Canaveral Hospital.
The current Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach will remain open during the construction of the new facility. A decision has not yet been made regarding the future of the existing building once the new hospital is operational.
