Merritt Island High Students Excel at Science and Engineering Fair

March 27, 2025 – There are two excellent articles on standout students in the current issue of MerrittIslandNow.com, and we wanted to share a few of the highlights and encourage readers to visit the website to learn more.

At the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), a prestigious event that showcases students’ hard work and creativity in the realm of science and engineering, Merritt Island High School had seven projects on display.

This year, a standout moment was when Camryn Slentz won an $88,000 scholarship to the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT). Slentz’s experiment explored the transmission of bacteria to food from phones and how different glove types (nitrile, polyethylene and cloth) impacted the amount of bacteria transferred.

Other MIHS students who placed were Evyn Cowen, third in the Plant Science category; Skylar Freeman placed third in Physics and Gregory Stephens ranked 5th in Behavioral Science.
