Introducing Registered Apprentice Programs

5-29-24 – There is a program that could add many opportunities for new workers and benefit employers.

Apprenticeships are a proven training method benefiting job seekers and businesses – and the return on investment is clear. For every dollar employers invest in apprenticeships, they receive an average of $1.50 in return. Meanwhile, job seekers receive on-the-job training to learn necessary skills while earning a paycheck.

Apprentice Florida – an initiative led by CareerSource Florida, the Department of Education and the Department of Economic Opportunity – seeks to expand registered apprenticeship programs across the Sunshine State and help businesses gain skilled talent today while preparing for tomorrow.

Today, apprenticeships are expanding across both traditional and non-traditional career fields, including information technology, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, construction, hospitality, and trade and logistics. Individuals who complete registered apprenticeships in the United States earn, on average, $60,000 per year.

Registered apprenticeships are highly structured training programs that allow participants to:

  • “earn as they learn” from day one
  • receive on-the-job training
  • earn a nationally recognized credential
  • learn from an experienced mentor
  • earn a wage that increases with your experience
  • gain a real-world understanding of the job
