Discover Our Island
> MERRITT ISLAND lies between the Indian River Lagoon on the west and sandy Atlantic Ocean beaches on the east. It’s no wonder that surfing is big here, but so is fishing, windsurfing, standup paddle boarding, kayaking, birding (on the Great Florida Birding & Wildlife Trail) and super-boat races. Island Life = Adventure.
History & Legacy
Established 1605
> Back in 1862, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Homestead Act, granting farmers up to 160 acres of land at $1.25 per acre. The Field Brothers 471.5 acres became the family home in Merritt Island. Today it’s a local treasure illustrating family life from the 1860s to the 1960s. It’s where orange groves flourished and island life did too.
