Get ready for a British invasion of sorts on the Space Coast, when the Community Band of Brevard presents a concert of British Harmonies on Sunday, June 2 at the Merritt Island High School Auditorium, 100 Mustang Way (off North Courtenay Parkway, 32953). The 3:00 PM program will include some of the best loved music from across the pond, including three jaunty military marches. The audience will be treated to the Percy Grainger masterpiece, Lincolnshire Posy, along with his Mock Morris. The William Byrd Suite by Gordon Jacob captures the essence of Byrd’s Renaissance works in a rewarding musical experience. No British invasion would be complete, however, without music from the Fab Four! CBOB complies with a medley of Beatles’ hits arranged by Gene D’Angelo. The Community Band of Brevard is a past winner of the John Philip Sousa Foundation’s Sudler Silver Scroll Award for musical excellence. British Harmonies is free with no ticket required and no reserve seating. Spokesperson and flute player, Mike Freeman thinks the audience will enjoy the grab bag of music planned for British Harmonies.
“We’re playing it all for this concert,” said Freeman. “Marches, folk music, classical –and of course something for Beatles fans to love!”
In 1999, the John Philip Sousa Foundation awarded the prestigious Sudler Silver Scroll Award to the Community Band of Brevard for “demonstrating particularly high standards of excellence in concert activities over a period of several years.” Sign up for concert alerts by emailing info@CommunityBandOfBrevard.com.
