SpaceX Sets Records

July 17, 2022 – On Sunday (7/17) another Falcon 9 blasted into the sky from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. SpaceX is using a system where many of the components of the spacecraft are recovered and reused, making the launches more cost-effective than single-use rockets.

Sunday’s launch was the 13th voyage for this Falcon 9’s first stage. These boosters return to Earth and land on their own power. This component has already been part of the Demo 2 crewed test flight to the International Space Station, the RADASAT Communications Mission, the SXM-7 communications satellite and nine Starlink missions.  It’s been a busy booster.

And it’s likely to see more action in the future.  After the launch today it landed safely on the SpaceX drone ship Just Read the Instructions, which was waiting for it in the Atlantic.

The 2022 launch schedule for SpaceX has already surpassed the entire roster for 2021, with 31 efforts so far year.
