Sea Turtle Nesting on the Space Coast Breaking Records

October 10, 2025 – Did you know that the beaches near Merritt Island are home to some of the most important sea turtle nesting grounds in the world? So when we hear about these gentle creatures breaking records we feel the need to share. Here is some info from the City of Cape Canaveral:

INCREDIBLE Sea Turtle Season in Brevard County!

Our beaches have been making waves for conservation! The September 2025 nesting numbers are in, and they speak volumes about the health of our coastal ecosystem.

So far, Brevard County beaches have hosted:

20,401 Green Turtle nests – the SECOND-HIGHEST season on record!

10,615 Loggerhead nests – these gentle giants continue to thrive

52 Leatherback nests – the ocean’s largest turtles

1 Kemp’s Ridley nest – a rare and precious visitor

These numbers represent thousands of baby sea turtles making their way to the ocean, a testament to decades of conservation work, protected habitats, and our community’s commitment to keeping beaches dark and safe during nesting season.

Every nest counts. Every turtle matters. Every person makes a difference. Thank you to all the researchers, volunteers, and beachgoers who help protect these ancient mariners.
